Silvia Costa

During the meeting Federazione Unitaria Italiana Scrittori (Federation of Italian Writers) had with Silvia Costa, President of EU Culture Commission, on 6th October 2015, facts have been presented and opinions have been exchanged about the situation of Italian Writers as related to EU and worldwide Authors Organisations.
In a previous occasion, having acknowledged EU Parliament resolution of 7th June 2007, FUIS has created a "European professional register" of Writers and has given a copy to the President herself. This time our Federation has offered to Silvia Costa the Manifesto or Open Letter of European Writers to European Authorities which was presented in Paris together with the Conseil Permanent des Ecrivains on last 22nd of October.
It has also been agreed on the opportunity to arrange, in Rome, on the first months on the New Year, an international meeting with Authors and Writers Associations from within and without EU, paying specific attention to the Southern Europe ones.
As regards the Draft for the Unified Publishing Contract for Printed and Digital Books, it seemed appropriate that the Presidency of EU Culture Commission could be promoter of a meeting on the model of the already experienced French one, where the Contract has been a result of the compromise between the Associations of Writers and the Associations of Publishers, with the active role of the Ministry of Culture.
FUIS has also presented to Silvia Costa two Schemes for Exhibition and Sale of Artworks Contracts, ideated by the Federation.
Finally, the meeting has given the opportunity to discuss a wide overview of the European and International creative frames where the actions of FUIS take place, especially International Authors Forum IAF, International Public Lending Right IPLR, International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations IFRRO, European Writers Council EWC. FUIS will be active in helping to build a true European Culture. The first steps will be the promotion of EU Culture Commission initiative, of the European Union Prize for Literature EUPL, and other events to come, while our Federation will be active with the realization of:
  • both an Italian Poetry Collection (with 40 Writers) in English and an Italian Narrative Writers Anthology (with 45 Authors) in English;
  • the Fourth Edition of the Stati Generali dell’Autore, dedicated to Writers and to the discussion of the 2014/26/EU Directive;
  • after Dante Alighieri Celebrations in 2015, FUIS will partecipate to the Celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of the Death of Miguel de Cervantes and to the Celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of the Death of William Shakespeare.
